Ohaguro Wrasse, Malachite Wrasse
(Pteragogus aurigarius)
Native to the coast of Japan and Taiwan, this species is seldom encountered in the aquarium hobby. We come across these maybe twice a year. Feeds on small fish and crustations. We found that keeping them with moderate current flowing kelp decorations and providing them a variety diet was the key to successful long-term captivity. Smaller fish have a much duller pattern until they mature. This species like most wrasses is able to change sex with age.
